3 Reasons to Get an Annual HVAC Checkup

Preventing problems before they begin is much more cost effective than dealing with them after the fact, which is why an annual HVAC checkup is critical. Here are just three reasons:

  1. Any system will run more efficiently if it is maintained properly. It will likely save a homeowner or real money in the long term if it is serviced regularly.

  2. The lifespan of a heating and cooling system can be drastically reduced by a lack of maintenance that can lead to costly repairs and even replacement well before its time.

  3. Safety is another reason, as parts can and do wear out on HVAC systems. Some of these issues could be serious, however, and put families at great risk.

Components of an HVAC Annual Checkup

There are three main components of an HVAC annual checkup, each of which involves several steps.

Safety Inspection

An HVAC specialist looks for wiring issues, gas leaks, carbon monoxide issues and anything else that could present a safety hazard.

Maintenance

This part of the inspection includes checking/recharging the refrigerant, lubricating moving parts, checking filters, vents and ducts, tightening loose connections, and cleaning all parts of the HVAC system.

Evaluate Efficiency

One of the biggest drains on the efficiency of an HVAC system is when air flow is either blocked or escaping where it shouldn’t. An HVAC specialist will look for these areas in which efficiency could be improved and discuss what can be done.

When to have an HVAC Checkup?

The perfect time to have an HVAC checkup is before the hot or cold seasons begin, which means getting heating equipment inspected right before winter and cooling systems inspected right before summer.

Nobody wants their HVAC system to break down at the height of either season, and so an annual checkup is a homeowner’s best weapon against possible breakdowns.
