Des Moines Public Library

Location: 1000 Grand Ave – Des Moines, IA
Job Description: New 150,000 sq ft Central Library for the Des Moines Public Library System Construction.

This project consisted of a pressurized floor plenum using Central Air Handlers and Fan Coil Units around the perimeter. The Mechanical plan consisted of a 300 ton Modular Chiller with a cooling tower placed in a concrete underground pit outside the building, and a 4400 gallon sump tank in the basement. There are a 2,500,000 BTU and a 3,000,000 BTU Boiler for heat. Other items include: 2 Plate and Frame Heat Exchangers, 1 Side Stream Filter, 7 Split System Air Conditioners, 179 Fan Coil Units, 2 Glycol Feed Units, 10 Pumps, and 5 Air Handling Units.

This project consisted of a 2 story library with underground parking in the shape of an airplane. There is not a square corner in the building. The roof is a sod roof with self propagating plants. All of the Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection lines in the parking garage are protected with Heat Trace.

This project had an aggressive schedule. We were delayed getting on the site, but when we arrived, our team of craftsmen accomplished the task on time and in budget.
